Can we use probiotics to combat wound infections?
Sybren published his latest work showing that the probiotic Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ATCC10241 inhibits the growth of several clinically relevant wound pathogens, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. We demonstrate that this antimicrobial activity is primarily driven by the production of organic acids, particularly lactic acid, rather than bacteriocins, providing new mechanistic insights into the potential use of probiotics in wound care.
